Current Research:

  1. Neuromorphic circuit design and modeling

    • Explored ways to utilize the novel nanoscale polymer/Si hybrid field configurable transistor (FCT) with spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) into the design of neuromorphic integrated circuits to electrically mimic the biological intelligent functions of the brain such as memory, learning, recognitions etc.
    • Demonstrated and circuit prototypes based on the FCT and crossbar architecture, which are capable of realizing the learning and recognitions functions via both pulse rate and temporal signal processing.
    • Design and realize neuromorphic circuit and system with intelligent functions in the standard CMOS technology.

  2. CMOS integrated biosensing systems

    • Designed and implemented the CMOS integrated ultra sensitive current amplifier for biosensor applications, the picoampere current sensitivity at the bandwidth over 15kHz (larger than the typical signal bandwidth of biosensors) is achieved.
    • Realized the CMOS microarray circuits which monolithically integrated the biosensor electrode array, decoder, controller, current amplifier, AD converter etc.
    • Demonstrated the integrated biosensing system via CMOS technology. The system is capable of electrically controlling the biosensor assembly from DNA, protein, and nanoparticles, meanwhile further sensing and processing the signals. A pathway to realize the high sensitivity, high efficiency, and low cost biosensing systems is explored.

  3. Nanoelectronic device physics, modeling, and characterization

    • Explored the physical mechanism modeling of the configurability and STDP of FCT devices.
    • Engaged in the electrical property characterizations of nanoelectronic devices.
